In the article Tuition Discount Alert: 50 Great Colleges Desperately Seeking Students Forbes staff reporter, Matt Schifrin, spilled the beans on the best kept secret of college admission offices.  There is a quite a shortage of students.  This makes it a buyers market for college bound students and their parents.

Since there are 2,235 four year non-profit college universities and 1,067 two year colleges throughout the United States, the higher education industry is over saturated.  The good news for both parents and students is many institutions are providing large grants to fill huge gap of having plenty of open spaces to fill with incoming freshmen.

Taken from the The Princeton Review of Best 377 Colleges, 2013 Edition, below are a sample of 50  colleges giving free money away to attract students. To lessen the tuition balance even more, watch this Fastweb.com video on how to get additional scholarship money.  Lastly, do not rule out negotiating with colleges to lower tuition expenses. Forget college loans.
